Cookies:

The user is informed that the site has set up a system for automatic collection of standard information such as the user’s IP address, commonly called “cookies”.

What is a cookie?

A cookie is a small text file with a unique identifier, placed directly on the hard disk of the internet user’s equipment each time he visits a site.

All data collected indirectly will be used only to monitor the volume, type and configuration of the traffic using this site, in order to allow easy browsing of the site, the compiling of frequency statistics and for other administrative purposes and, more generally, to improve the services offered by the site.

The internet user can disable the sending of cookies by altering the settings of his browser.

What cookies are used for…

Cookies have different functions. They can allow sites to recognize an internet user from one visit to another, by means of a unique identifier. They also let sites memorise the user’s actions and preferences, such as language of a site, font size and other display parameters, for a given time, so that the internet user does not have to repeat this data each time that he consults these sites or browses from one web page to another.

Who can place and access cookies?

Cookies are managed by the internet user’s equipment. A website can only read and write cookies that belong to it. However, a web page often contains information from different sites, mainly via advertising banners. Accordingly, cookies can be placed and read by sites other than those that the user accesses directly.

How do advertising cookies work?

Advertising cookies record data about the user’s browsing and can deduce from this his areas of interest or his preferences on the website in order to present him with suitable offers and information. Thus, they allow companies to personalize the advertising that will appear to the user based on actions taken on the site visited, as well as on other sites using the same advertising means.

Social network sharing buttons (“Like” for Facebook, “+1” for Google, etc.) will monitor the internet user in the same way and offer him targeted advertising.

Cookies placed by advertising bodies enable anonymous identification of internet users. Browsing data uploaded is data such as the URLs of pages visited, key words used in search engines or interactions with advertisements.

Social network cookies…

A web page may include third party elements which allow the internet user to share specific content via social networks; these are application buttons. Examples are the “Share”, “Like”, “+1”, “Tweet” buttons on social networks such as Facebook, Twitter or Google.

When the user logs in to a web page having one such application button, the social network can associate this view with the user’s profile, even if the user does not click on the button and is not connected to this network! The social network can thus adapt its advertising in relation to the sites visited and propose “groups” appropriate to the areas of interest deduced from the internet browsing pattern. It can also offer becoming a fan of the web page that the user visits most.

DELFINGEN Industry S.A. invites each internet user to view the privacy protection policies of these social networks in order to learn the purposes, particularly advertising-related, of the browsing data that they may collect via these application buttons.

What does the law say about cookies?

The regulations stipulate that websites must obtain the consent of each internet user before placing these cookies, state what they are used for and how the user may object to them. In practice, during first login to the site, a message must appear telling the user how to accept or, alternatively, refuse cookies. The simple act of visiting the page or continuing to browse on the site does not in any way presume consent from the user.

How can I block cookies?

Third party cookies are usually not essential to take advantage of the resources available on the internet. If the internet user wishes to restrict his traces, he is recommended to refuse them by default.

In order to express or go back on a consent, DELFINGEN Industry S.A. invites each internet user to return to the help menu or to the dedicated heading in the user’s browser. For example, more information is available on the following pages:

Internet Explorer

Safari

Chrome

Firefox

Opera

How is it possible to find out which cookies are placed during my browsing?

Experts at CNIL have developed a tool called CookieViz which an internet user can install in a few clicks. It shows in real time the size of the cookies phenomenon and the impressive number of players who work on analysing the internet user’s browsing. Other methods which do not require installation are available.
